Build the operating system for mission-driven organizations.

Mavenly is hiring engineers, designers, and operators who want to spend the next several years building the substantive infrastructure that nonprofits and foundations have been waiting for. Pre-launch, founder-stage, building deliberately.

    Why Mavenly

Most software for nonprofits is built without them. Mavenly is an attempt to do the opposite.

Mission-driven organizations have been treated as a discount tier of B2B SaaS for two decades. Mavenly is being built around four substantive bets.

    01

    Real impact, at scale.

U.S. nonprofits raise roughly $50B annually in grant funding, and most of them run that operation on the same tools they've used for fifteen years. The opportunity isn't incremental; it's the substantive infrastructure layer for a sector that hasn't had one. The work matters.

    02

    AI done deliberately.

We have a contractually-bound zero-data-retention agreement with our model provider, a no-training commitment that's load-bearing across our Privacy Policy and Terms, and a security posture published on day one. None of this is optional.

    03

    Mission-driven, not non-commercial.

Mavenly is a for-profit company building paid software. We're neither a charity nor a pure commercial extraction play — we're a real business serving customers who happen to be doing real social good. That's the model that produces sustainable infrastructure.

    04

    Founder-stage opportunity.

The first ten employees define what a company becomes. The equity ranges below (0.5–2%) reflect that. The role definitions reflect it. The decision authority reflects it. The timing here is good and the runway is funded.

    How we work

Six working principles, not values posters.

These aren't aspirational. They describe how we already work and what we'll keep doing as we grow. If any of them sound wrong to you, we're probably not a fit.

    01

    We write before we build.

Substantive design docs, not Jira tickets. Most product decisions get worked out in writing first — the writing is the thinking. People who hate writing will find this exhausting.

    02

    Honesty over hype.

The pre-launch banner on every page exists because we'd rather under-promise and over-deliver than the opposite. We don't claim certifications we haven't earned. We say 'we don't know' when we don't know.

    03

Customer Data is not training data.

Operationalized at every layer of the stack — contracts with model providers, encryption boundaries, access controls, audit logs. The commitment is load-bearing.

    04

    Long-form over Slack.

We're a substantively async writing culture. The team writes in long-form documents that everyone reads carefully rather than fragmenting decisions across chat threads.

    05

    Southeast-anchored, remote-first.

Mavenly, Inc. is incorporated in Miami. The operational anchor remains across the Southeast. Most roles are remote-friendly across U.S. time zones, with two in-person team weeks per year (fully expensed).

    06

    Sustainability over crunch.

Equity is the long game. We work hard and consistently — but we don't work weekends as a default, we don't celebrate exhaustion. The four-year vest exists because the journey is four years long, minimum.

    Compensation

    How we pay — transparently.

Top-of-market base salaries for early-stage, generous equity that reflects founding-stage opportunity, and benefits that don't try to be cute.

    Base salary
Top of market for early-stage, calibrated to a national market rather than a single metro. Specific bands published per role below — no 'competitive' hand-waving.

100% covered for the employee, 75% covered for dependents. Same plan for everyone — no executive tier. PPO and HMO options.
    100% / 75%

    Open roles

    Currently hiring 4 founding roles.

All four are founding-team positions with substantive equity, foundational decision authority, and the early-employee opportunity.

    Founding · Engineering·Atlanta or Remote (US)·Full-time

    Founding Engineer, Backend & AI

    $180K – $220K + 1.0–2.0%

    Base + equity

You'll own the backend infrastructure and AI inference layer that powers Compose, Discover, and Reporter. This is the most consequential engineering role at the company — the systems you build will define what the product can do for the next decade.

    What you'll do

    • Architect and build the AI inference layer on Anthropic's Claude API — including prompt construction, output validation, source attribution, and zero-data-retention guarantees.
    • Own the Compose drafting pipeline end-to-end — corpus ingestion, voice-signature extraction, draft generation, source-grounded citations.
    • Build and operate the Postgres-based platform on AWS, with deliberate emphasis on observability, audit logging, and tenant isolation.
    • Set technical standards for the engineering team — code review, testing philosophy, deployment cadence, on-call rotation.

    What we're looking for

    • 5+ years of backend engineering experience, with substantial production experience in Python (FastAPI, SQLAlchemy) and Postgres at scale.
    • Hands-on experience building products on top of LLM APIs — shipping production systems with proper output validation, cost controls, and graceful degradation.
    • Strong opinions about API design, data modeling, and operational excellence, held loosely.
    • The ability to write clearly about technical trade-offs in long-form documents.

    Founding Engineer, Full-Stack

    $170K – $210K + 0.75–1.5%

    Base + equity

You'll own the product UI for the grantseeker edition — Discover, Pipeline, and the cross-cutting platform shell. The work spans React component architecture, TypeScript discipline, accessibility, and the operational details that distinguish a product that feels good to use from one that just functions.

    What you'll do

    • Build Discover, the Pipeline kanban-and-forecast workflow, and the platform shell that ties all four modules together.
    • Own the design system implementation in code — from tokens to components to layout primitives.
    • Set and enforce accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA minimum, AAA where reasonable).
    • Build customer-facing onboarding, settings, and admin surfaces that decide whether the product feels coherent or fragmented.

    What we're looking for

    • 4+ years of frontend engineering, with deep production experience in Next.js, React, and TypeScript.
    • Demonstrable taste in UI — not just functional, but considered.
    • Real experience with accessibility, internationalization, and operational details.
    • Comfort working closely with designers — we don't have a thrown-over-the-wall model here.

    Founding Designer

    $160K – $190K + 0.5–1.25%

    Base + equity

You'll own Mavenly's visual language and product UX across both grantseeker and grantmaker editions. The aesthetic visible on this site is the starting point — your job is to extend it into a complete product that feels considered at every interaction.

    What you'll do

    • Steward Mavenly's design system across all surfaces — marketing, product, internal tools.
    • Lead the UX for all four grantseeker modules and the four grantmaker modules — each a substantive design problem.
    • Produce design artifacts our team can actually build from — Figma libraries, prototype flows, motion specs, edge-case treatments.
    • Partner with the Customer Success Lead to do real research with our design partner organizations.

    What we're looking for

    • 5+ years of product design experience, with at least 2 years on substantive B2B SaaS products.
    • A portfolio that shows considered work — typography decisions, information density, interaction nuance.
    • Strong opinions about design systems, held with the discipline to actually maintain one.
    • Comfort designing for users whose work matters — and treating those users as expert.

    Founding Customer Success Lead

    $140K – $170K + 0.5–1.0%

    Base + equity

You'll own the relationships with our earliest paying customers — across both the grantseeker and foundation editions. Nonprofits and foundations expect actual partnership, not a ticket queue.

    What you'll do

    • Lead onboarding for new customers — including design partners HBCU Endowment Fund and World Nourishment Foundation, plus the organizations signing up through self-serve every week.
    • Run quarterly business reviews — outcomes against goals, what's working, what isn't, what should change.
    • Surface product feedback to engineering and design in long-form written briefs (not Slack pings).
    • Build the playbooks that will scale customer success in Year 2.

    What we're looking for

    • 5+ years of customer success or solutions engineering at a B2B SaaS company.
    • Substantive experience with nonprofits, foundations, or other mission-driven organizations.
    • Ability to write clearly and at length — your written briefs will determine what gets built.
    • Comfort being early — building from scratch, defining the playbook, owning the outcomes.

    Process

Our hiring process, start to finish.

We respect candidate time. The whole process runs roughly three weeks from application to offer — slower than a sloppy hiring process, faster than most thoughtful ones.

    Step 01

    Application review.

You email careers@mavenly.ai with a brief note about why this role and a resume or portfolio. We read every application — no ATS keyword filtering, no automated rejection.

Response within 5 business days · either way

    Step 02

    Intro conversation.

30-minute video call with the hiring lead. Two-way fit conversation — what you're looking for, what we're building. No technical assessment at this stage.

Scheduled within 1 week of application acceptance

    Step 03

    Take-home or technical conversation.

For engineering: a 4–6 hour take-home on a representative problem from our actual codebase. For design: a portfolio walkthrough plus a short design conversation. All take-home work is paid.

Take-homes are paid · Submission within 7 days

    Step 04

    Team conversations.

Two to three 45-minute conversations with potential teammates. Calibrated to be substantive without being exhausting — we don't do panel-of-eight grilling.

Scheduled within 1 week · all conversations on the same day where possible

    Step 05

    References & offer.

Two reference calls. A written offer with the full comp package, equity details, and start date. Two weeks to decide — we don't pressure exploding offers.

Offer issued within 1 week · 2-week decision window
